Abstract

Jammu & Kashmir is an agrarian state, nearly about 65% of its population directly or indirectly depends upon agriculture and more than 70% people lives in rural areas, being an agrarian state, it cannot provide food grains to whole of its population. The climatic conditions of state are not favourable and mostly depend upon rainfall. There are various challenges and issues in agriculture production, productivity, climatic conditions, hilly region, lack of rural transport, infrastructure and marketing facilities. The objective of paper is to emphasis on challenges in agriculture in Jammu & Kashmir state. The nature of the paper is theoretical in nature and based on secondary data, the finding of paper shows that in Jammu & Kashmir agriculture is still narrow, backward and less productive.
