Abstract

The partial level density in a many fermion system is studied for widely varying values of the range of the interaction. The effect of the range is examined through matrix calculations and scalar averages. With increasing range, the results show an increasing departure from the Gaussian form as well as a slower rate (with respect to the number of particles) of approach to normality. The distribution of the two-body matrix elements for the different ranges of the interaction is also studied.
