Abstract

This issue of Clinical Pharmacology in Drug Development is the first of Volume 10 – we enter the tenth year of the Journal's publication life. According to PubMed, we have published 699 research articles, editorials, and commentaries since the first issue appeared in 2012. The number does not include the supplemental issues containing the abstracts of presentations at the Annual Meetings of the American College of Clinical Pharmacology, appearing every fall. Manuscripts submitted to CPDD have been increasing in number year-by-year. In 2020, submissions reached an all-time high. This is good news, since the life-blood of a scientific journal is the continuing influx of excellent scientific papers for consideration. The Journal's current strength represents a combination of the high quality of our authors’ submitted papers, the dedication and generosity of reviewers who donate their time to the peer-review process, the advice and support of the distinguished members of the Editorial Board, the close collaboration with Dr. Bertino and The Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, and the support and encouragement of our publisher, Wiley Periodicals LLC. Of course CPDD would not exist without the blessing of our “parent,” the American College of Clinical Pharmacology, through its elected leaders, the Board of Regents, the Publications Committee, and the Staff of ACCP. No praise is too great for Managing Editor Ms. Elizabeth Marshall, who, through meticulous work and vision, has kept both CPDD and JCP on track for many years. Based on the Journal's growth, we will be increasing the publication frequency to 12 issues per year beginning with this first issue of Volume 10. This means some extra work for the Editorial Office, the Editorial Board, our reviewers, and Wiley. But we welcome this, since we are all winners when the ACCP journals are successful. As another new feature, we now offer the option of expedited peer-review, in recognition of some authors’ and sponsors’ need for more rapid publication. The review process is no less rigorous, but is accelerated to provide a rapid initial response from the Editorial Office. On the more somber side, we have experienced the tragic loss of several founding members of our Editorial Board during the last few years. These include Dr. David Flockhart, Dr. Darrell Abernethy, and, most recently, Dr. Hartmut Derendorf. These distinguished scientists were taken far too soon, with many years of productivity and contribution to the scientific community yet ahead of them. The loss of Dr. Derendorf just a few weeks ago is especially stunning, since he had participated in ACCP activities right up until his sudden and unexpected death. A tribute to Dr. Derendorf and his life will appear in CPDD in the near future. We move into the tenth year with optimism, though mixed with sadness. We anticipate that the continued growth of CPDD will bring pride to the ACCP and its members, and brighten our memories of departed colleagues. Editor-in-Chief
