Abstract

It is my pleasure to introduce the “Annual Meetings and Symposia” section of the Journal of Clinical Pharmacology (JCP). I would like to take this opportunity to share the vision of this section and the various ways through which all of us can contribute towards facilitating the development of this section and the continued success of JCP. As we all know, scientific information is now being disseminated using a variety of platforms such as publications in scientific journals and presentations at scientific meetings and workshops. The American College of Clinical Pharmacology (ACCP) continues to play a leading role in advancing the discipline of clinical pharmacology by publishing high-quality scientific journals such as JCP. In addition, the ACCP frequently organizes symposia/workshops through which a panel of experts shares their research findings and provides a perspective on a wide array of scientific issues. Unfortunately, the opportunity to learn from the scientific exchanges at these meetings/workshops is mainly restricted to the meeting attendees. The primary goal of creating the “Annual Meeting and Symposia” section is to present a brief conference report of the major discussions at symposia/workshops that are hosted or co-hosted by the ACCP. Sessions with other sponsors that are felt to be of very high interest to ACCP members but are not available through venues typically accessed by the general clinical pharmacology community may also be considered. To accomplish the goal of covering ACCP-sponsored sessions, the chairperson and/or a presenter of the symposium/workshop will be encouraged to prepare a brief summary of the conference proceedings. This summary will be submitted to JCP for review. Once reviewed and if found to be acceptable, the summary will be available online before the article appears in the print version of the journal. The hope is that the summary of the meeting will serve as a rapid and efficient way of sharing the major points of discussion with the scientific community. I would like to sincerely request all session chair(s) of ACCP-sponsored or co-sponsored meetings and workshops to consider summarizing the major topics of discussion for publication in the “Annual Meetings and Symposia” section.
