Abstract
Standards for shopping centers must be thought of in terms of guide lines rather than standards, except for definitions of neighborhood, community and regional shopping centers which are generally accepted through long usage. Guide lines are applicable to site selection, access, visibility, utilities, zoning, types of layout, design, store groupings, sales areas, single and multiple tenant buildings, structural aspects (including partition and interior walls, roofs and canopies, slab versus basement, malls, store size, floors, ceilings, air-conditioning, lighting, signs, landscaping); parking areas (layouts, circulation control, surfacing, economic values); and truck service areas.
