Abstract

The co-parenting relationship has received increased attention from researchers and clinicians interested in divorce-related child adjustment. To supplement this growing interest, standardized assessment tools are needed to accurately describe co-parenting behavior. The Co-parenting Behavior Questionnaire (CBQ) is a child-report measure of parenting behaviors and competencies specific to the post-divorce environment. Further revision and psychometric analysis were necessary to address the limits imposed by small, unrepresentative samples used in the CBQ's initial development. The purpose of this study was to confirm the factor structure of the CBQ using a large, representative sample. Furthering validation helps to establish the CBQ as a superior measurement tool for assessing co-parenting behavior from a child's perspective. Potential clinical and research applications of this instrument are discussed.
