Abstract

AbstractThe effect of lead‐based ballistic modifiers on the reactions of stabilizers during accelerated aging at 80°C and 90°C of cast double base propellants has been investigated in order to obtain information on the reactions taking place in these propellant systems. It was found that the ballistic modifiers lead β‐resorcylate (LBR) and lead salicylate (LS) have a significant effect on the depletion of para‐nitro‐N‐methylaniline (pNMA) and 2‐nitrodiphenylamine (2NDPA). Model studies have shown that both LBR and LS reduce the rate of depletion of pNMA to a similar degree, but only LBR reduces the rate of depletion of 2NDPA, with LS having the opposite effect.
