Abstract

Effect of calcination and sintering conditions on the formation of the perovskite phase and dielectric properties in the system xPb(Zn1/3Nb2/3)O3-(1 - x)Pb(Fe1/2Nb1/2)O3 are studied. The perovskite phase can be stabilised up to x ≤ 0.6. A relative density of more than 90% is obtained at a sintering temperature of around 1000°C. A peak dielectric constant of 13250, dielectric loss of 2.8% and a Curie temperature of 125°C are achieved for the composition 0.4Pb(Zn1/3Nb2/3)O3-0.6Pb(Fe1/2Nb1/2)O3. With suitable additives to reduce the Curie temperature and the dielectric loss, this composition may be a potential candidate for the multilayer ceramic capacitor applications.
