Abstract
The trigonal planar geometry of tricoordinated boron is one the tenets of main group chemistry which remained unchallenged for many years. Herein, we have proposed some pyramidal tricoordinated boron derivatives stabilized by pnictogens. The geometry containing N stabilized pyramidal boron centre is a local minimum while for heavier P and As stabilized pyramidal boron derivatives are global minima. The pyramidal boron centers are found to have enhanced Lewis acidity and are very good candidate for the realization of hitherto unknown unsupported transition metal–boron dative bond.
