Abstract

Transmission control by amplifiers with nonlinear gain can stabilize propagation of dark solitons in fibers. The scheme is effective in controlling and stabilizing the velocity of black or gray dark solitons under the influence of mutual interaction between neighboring solitons, the Raman effect, and the amplifier noise. The use of nonlinear gain is also effective in suppressing the sideband instability of dark solitons that can occur in systems with periodic lumped amplification.
