Abstract
Stability of wake flames formed behind a bluff-body with fuel injection slits was investigated experimentally in various shape of two dimentional bluff-bodies such as cylinders with 10-20 mm diameters, hemi-circle, 60°wedge and rectangular pillars with 12.5 mm width. The buff-body was fitted in an air stream ranging 5-60 m/s. Fuels used were propane, methane, ethylene and butane. Flame stability limits, lengths or shapes of recirculation zone, distributions of chemical species concentration, temperature and equivalence ratio in the zone were measured. The results show that an equivalence ratio in the recirculation zone is important in determining the flame limit. The air velocity at blow off is inversely proportional to the square root of the bluff-body width, and is independent on the direction of fuel injection and the shape of flame holder except rectangular pillar.
