Abstract
Lattice parameters have been measured in 18R and 6R martensite without and with stabilization. It is shown that 6R is basically cubic, deviations occurring due to remaining traces of 18R. The orthorhombic distortion in 18R depends on the long range order energy inherited from the B2 phase, which generally is not perfect and can be modified by heat treatments in the β phase. Stabilization of 18R martensite can be quantitatively accounted for by the disordering of CuZn pairs.
