Abstract
Based on the Bernstein energy principle,the stability of force-free fields is studied,and the sufficient-necessary criteria for the stability of linear and nonlinear forcefree fields is derived.from which the well-known criteria form for linear force-free magnetic fields can be easily deduced.In this paper,the sufficient criteria for the stability of nonlinear force-free fields given by Kruger is carefully studied and the physical explanation is discussed,too.
