Abstract

Simple methods are presented for finding λ c , the lowest critical load factor of a frame, or for designing to achieve a required λ c . Dead loads and buckling modes are included. The stability functions used are particularly appropriate and extensive, and yet are tabulated exceptionally compactly. Hence hand computation is simplified, as the worked examples show. However the expressions given for the stability functions have been chosen for brevity of coding and speed of execution on programmable pocket calculators and other small computers.
