Abstract

Stabilising effect of hydrophobic silicate film on electrode|redox liquid|aqueous solution system was presented. Two types of films were prepared on gold electrode by one and two step method. Both of them involved deposition of methyltrimethoxysilane based sol. In second method this step was preceded by self assembly of 3-mercaptopropyltrimethoxysilane on the electrode surface. The progress of this process was controlled by cyclic voltammetry and stopped to obtain partially blocked electrode. The voltammetric oxidation of deposited redox liquid ( t-butylferrocene) was employed to monitor stabilising effect of the film. With the electrode obtained by two step process stable voltammetric response was obtained. This is in contrast to unstable electrochemical behaviour of tBuFc on bare gold and one step modified electrode.
