Abstract

We propose a new variational ground state, the displaced-squeezed-state, for the linear E-e Jahn-Teller system. The variational ground-state energy and the corresponding Ham's reduction factor are calculated and the results are compared with those of previous authors. We show that the squeezing effect favors a larger displacement of the wave-function of the vibrational mode and thus leads to a lower variational ground-state energy.
