Abstract

A general problem of the dynamic Jahn-Teller effect for an electronic doublet ( E ) state in tetragonal symmetry has been studied. Numerical calculations of energy levels and Ham's reduction factors have been done for the cases in which the frequency for the two modes (β 1 and β 2 ) and the coupling to them are assumed different. The difference in the energy scheme between cubic ( E × e ) and tetragonal ( E ×(β 1 +β 2 )) cases is pointed out. Relations among Ham's reduction factors are also discussed.
