He received his Ph.D. from Stanford University, working in geometric function theory under the supervision of Professor Max Schiffer. His research interests include combinatorics, graph theory, combinatorial geometry, and mathematics education. He is a co-author, with Calvin Long, of the textbook Mathematical Reasoning for Elementary Teachers. He now serves as Boeing Distinguished Professor in Mathematics and Science Education. When not doing or teaching mathematics, he can frequently be found paddling a canoe, playing tennis, tooting a recorder, and keeping up with the latest adventures of his two grown daughters.Matthew HudelsonMATTHEW HUDELSON is Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Washington State University. He received his Ph.D. in 1995 from the University of Washington, working in combinatorial geometry under the direction of Professor Victor Klee. His research interests include geometry and combinatorics. A project NExT Fellow during 1996–97, he is interested in efforts to expand on lecture-based teaching techniques for large classes. His non-mathematical interests include musical composition and bridge as well as a desire to take up golf some day.
