Abstract
The reaction between Os3(CO)12 and 2,6-naphthalenedicarboxylic acid (H2NDC) followed by reaction with tri-p-tolylphosphane produced the complex [Os2(CO)4(p-tolyl3P)2]4(μ4-NDCA)4 (1), which is the first example of a square octanuclear osmium complex. The reaction of Os3(CO)12 with benzene-1,3,5-tricarboxylic acid (H3BTC) yielded [Os2(CO)6]6(μ6-BTC)4 (2), which is the first octahedral dodecanuclear osmium complex. The basic metal building blocks in both 1 and 2 are Os2(CO)4L2 sawhorse units, which are linked together with di- or tricarboxylato spacers to form Os8 or Os12 supramolecules. The structures of these new MOF-like complexes were determined by X-ray crystallographic analysis.
