Abstract

Summary The author develops and unfolds some of his thoughts in: “Die Wiederkehr des Glanzes in der Welt. Die christliche Lehre von der Sunde und ihrer Vergebung in gegenwartiger Verantwortung”, Tubingen 1989. He tries especially to enter into a discourse with philosophy. As a being that—different from all other beings—is gifted with speech, man uses this very speech for sinning. Again, in this situation of sin man is also approached by speech, approached by the word of God. Even though the author shares the high esteem of the enlightment concerning man and his abilities, he decidedly disagrees with the opinion of Kant, Schiller or Hegel that human freedom begins with the first sin in Gen 3. God has not created man imperfect as though he becomes a “real” man only by sinning. Rather, the Bible tells the “loss of the highest and best that characterizes man”.
