Abstract

Abstract Although chronic pulmonary disease due to atypical mycobacteria also known as non-tuberculous mycobacterial (NTM) infections are recognised with increasing frequency, very few cases of primary urinary involvement with this organism have been reported. It is important to distinguish between simple colonisation by these organisms and actual infection caused by them. Differentiation between NTM infection and urinary tuberculosis is also important in determining the therapeutic regimen. We present the report of a case of perinephric abscess produced by NTM in a healthy male individual.
