Abstract

Abstract The ideas about spontaneous symmetry breakdown are reviewed for high Z atoms, ferromagnets and weak interactions. Both the theories of spontaneous and dynamical symmetry breakdown are summarized and contrasted for nonrelativistic superconductivity, valence nuclear pairing, and relativistic quantum chromodynamics.
