Abstract

AbstractThe dispersion relation of s‐polarized nonlinear surface polaritons is derived for a system consisting of an optical nonlinear and an optical linear semi‐infinite medium which are seperated by a dipoleactive transition layer. With the power flow of the nonlinear surface polaritons an additional physical parameter enters the dispersion relation. The various resulting forms of the dispersion relation are analyzed and presented in graphical form. It is shown that in the case of resonance of the s‐polarized nonlinear surface polaritons with the transverse optical vibrations of the transition layer the dispersion curves are altered dramatically. The electromagnetic fields, the Poynting vector, and the energy flow of the s‐polarized nonlinear surface polaritons are calculated and presented in graphical form.
