Abstract

This article reviews the literature and research that examines the effectiveness of hand splinting in rheumatology. For therapists there is an increasing emphasis on evaluating treatment regimes for their effectiveness, yet there still seems to be little consensus on the effect that splints can have in preventing deformity and increasing hand function for both the acute and the chronic rheumatoid hand.
