Abstract
A close examination of the available data for the x-ray non-diagram lines in the K, L and M regions of the x-ray spectra has revealed, for the first time, the existence of a large number of pairs satisfying the spin-doublet law which is taken as the first and significant criterion for spin-doublet formation. The rule of approximate constancy of the wavelength separation Δλ for the members of a spin doublet, which is taken as the second criterion for spin-doublet formation, has been found to hold good in the K region, while it does not hold for some pairs in the L region or for any pair in the M region; this is expected from theoretical considerations. Attention is drawn to the importance of a knowledge of spin doublets in the systematization of x-ray satellite spectra.
