Abstract

The transport properties of dilute solutions of 3He in 4He provide information about the effective interaction between the 3He quasiparticles. Of the transport properties, the spin diffusion coefficient, which can be measured by NMR spin-echo techniques, is most sensitive to these interactions. Here we report such measurements on 4.97% and 1.15% 3He in 4He for pressures of 0.04, 9.2, and 20 atm at temperatures between 1.5 and 0.072°K. The effective interaction potentials at the three pressures deduced from these data are presented. From these potentials it appears that the temperature of the expected superfluid transition is highest for the lowest pressure and the smaller concentration studied.
