Abstract

The paper addresses the use of the radio data system (RDS) for datacasting road traffic information. It is concluded that, although RDS may be essential to the early phases of introduction of novel advanced traffic information systems (ATISs), FM subcarrier transmission does not offer a spectrum-efficient solution for large-scale ATIS datacasting. The conclusions are believed relevant to the spectrum-efficient design of the future datacasting networks.< <ETX xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">></ETX>
