Abstract

IR spectra of di-tert-butylberyllium in vapour, liquid and solid states, and Raman spectra of these compounds in liquid and solid states are given. Taking account of existing papers related to tert-butyl chloride, di-tert-butyl sulfide and selenide, and the work by Coates on di-tert-butylberyllium in liquid state, a new frequencies assignment is suggested from 4000 to 2000 cm -1. Liquid and gaseous di-tert-butylberyllium belong to the D 3 d symmetry point group. On crystallisation there is loss of symmetry shown by vibration analysis. The D 3 point group is assigned although a lower symmetry ( C 2ν) could not be excluded.
