Abstract

Glass sample with B2O3-SiO2-CaO-BaO: Sm2O3 formula (labeled as BSB-Sm) was synthesized by melt-quenching method. The optical and luminescence properties of BSBSm glasses were investigated for display devices applications. The compactness of the glass is also confirmed from the increase in field-strength, interionic distance and polaron radius decrease. The higher value of Ωλ (λ = 2, 4, 6) suggest that the present BSB05 glass is more rigid and ionic behavior of ligands anion-Sm3+ ions bonding. Moreover, observed trend of JO-parameters for present BSB05 glasses is Ω4 > Ω6 > Ω2. The radiative-transition-probabilities (AR, s−1) and emission cross-section for transition (4G5/2 → 6H7/2) of Sm3+-ions in BSB05 glass is higher. The color-coordinates for all glasses in the present study are x = 0.595, y = 0.404 (fall in orange region). The CCT (correlated-color-temperature) values for all glasses in the present study were 1721 K which has value lower than warm CCT. The study suggests BSB05 glass have potential to be used in display devise (multi-color) applications.
