Abstract
Spectroscopic properties of optical absorption, luminescence and infrared spectral studies are measured for erbium doped Li2O–BaO–P2O5 glasses. These glasses were prepared by the melt quenching technique in the compositional series containing 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5 mol % of erbium. From the optical absorption, photoluminescence of Li2O–BaO–P2O5 glass the Judd–Oflet theory could successfully be applied to characterize the optical absorption spectra of these ions for all the three glass systems. Out of the three J–O parameters (Ω), the value of Ω2,which is related to the structural changes in the vicinity of the Er3+ ion indicated gradual decrease in the covalent environment as the concentration of Er2O3 is increased. Suggest that an increase in the concentration of ruffled P–O–P bonds in these glasses with increase in the concentration of Er2O3.
