Abstract

The adducts formed between VO(acac) 2 and a number of alkyl and aryl sulfoxides in dichloromethane were investigated by means of visible and IR spectroscopy. The sulfoxides all interact with the vanadium of the VO(acac) 2 via their oxygen atoms to form weak adducts with formation constants (2.4 < K f < 6.4) which show a linear correlation with the pKa values found for these sulfoxides in aqueous H 2SO 4.
