Abstract

A simple and easy procedure is proposed for the determination of individual rare earth elements in Monazite. The rare earth metal ions, Ln3+, in the sample solution are converted into the mixed complex, Ln3+-EDTA-C2O42-, and determined by spectrophotometey. This procedure is applied for the analysis of Monazite produced in the beach sands of Vietnam. The results agreed well with those obtained by the conventional analytical methods. Since this procedure is simple and can easily be carried out by using ordinary apparatus and reagents, it is suitable for the analytical work in the laboratories in Vietnam.
