Abstract

We demonstrate a novel method of fabrication and characterization of dye doped hollow polymer optical fiber with an inner coating of silver nanoparticles (AgNP) in the form of a micro ring. Under transverse optical pumping, we observe strong, sharp, narrow lasing peaks in silver doped micro ring samples with certain improvements compared to uncoated ones. Using these techniques, we also achieved the tuning of different emission parameters including spectral shift and mode intensity enhancement. These fibers also exhibit lower loss with an improvement factor of 3.65 dB and lower threshold of pump pulse energy (PPE) of nearly 300 μJ. Analyzing the emission characteristics, we propose a mathematical relationship for the spectral shift with respect to the variation of particle density in the material.
