Abstract

The presented article is analytical in nature, and its main purpose is to collect and detail the information scattered in the pedagogical and legal discourse on the topic signaled in the title. Thus, the authors focus on discussing the basic problem areas that dock the contemporary picture of the system of foreign- language education of children and adolescents in Poland, in which the issues of disability and special educational needs of students have been gaining importance for years. The starting point for consideration is the genesis and international context of special education. The readers' attention is then directed to the definitions of disability and special educational needs crystallized against this background. This is followed by an analysis of the ever-changing, but at the same time already constituted legal and competence framework of the national system of education and support for students with disabilities and/or special needs. While estimating its potential, the authors at the same time point out the difficulties that exist at the level of implementation of glottodidactic practice with this group of learners.
