Abstract

A critical look is taken at most of the major components that comprise an electric booster melting installation, and the advantages and disadvantages of each of these items of equipment are pointed out. In addition to the electrical specifications normally considered, also pointed out are some of the physical and mechanical aspects of the equipment to be considered during selection, areas seldom related to in previous papers. With increased emphasis on equipment life, generated primarily from the continued high interest rates, we will all be forced to make wiser decisions regarding equipment selection. It is hoped the topics addressed will provide some of the information necessary to make these difficult choices.
