Abstract
Cryotherapy is a tissue ablation procedure performed by local application of very low temperatures. It is highly effective minimally invasive treatment for prostate cancer. Significant improvement of cryosurgery equipment, use of cryoneedles with smaller diameter, temperature sensors, and a catheter for heating of the urethral mucosa minimize the number of complications compared with other treatments for prostate cancer and enable high recurrence-free survival. Due to the high probability of postoperative erectile dysfunction, this method is increasingly used in patients who are not interested in preserving sexual function. Cryotherapy can be repeated in the case of tumor recurrence after surgical or radiation treatment of prostate cancer.
