Abstract
The results of two separate provenance trials of Eucalyptus. camaldulensis and E. tereticornis laid out at village Piareana, Ferozepur Forest Division representing the arid region of Punjab have been presented and discussed. Results of species and provenance trial at Chak Sarkar in the same Forest Division are also reviewed to suggest a way forward. The superior genotypes from experiments can be further selected for clonal multiplication and recommended for semi-arid region of Punjab. It is recommended that tree improvement and genetic improvement programme in north India may be based on the E. camaldulensis provenances, Katherine, Flinders Richmond, South Wiluna and Ord River, and E. tereticornis provenances, Lakeland Downs, Kennedy River, Laura area (both now designated as E. camaldulensis ), West of Mackay and 20 Km north of Molloy. Selections of Eucalyptus hybrid from natural populations may also be added to observe their good performance at Chak Sarkar.
