A fast multiprocessor prototype computer system is described that can be used for iterations of the following type: u k+1:=N(u k, u k−1, …, u k−m+1) ; u i ϵ U ⊂ R n; n > 10 4 . This recursion equation has a wide spread of applications and appears in particular in high-dimensional finite models of partial-differential equations. Reaction-diffusion equations and soliton bearing systems are examples of this type of equation. The computer is based on the MIMD structure consisting of a changeable number of parallel connected processors working in two phases: an autonomous calculation phase and a communication phase. The processors are connected by a single (standard) bus; a host-computer and graphic system are included. The communication phase is realized in hardware, consequently no software overhead is necessary.
