Abstract

Multi-sensor integration refers to the synergistic use of the information provided by multiple sensory devices to assist in the accomplishment of a task by a system. The more restricted notion of multisensor fusion refers to any stage in the integration process where there is an actual combination (or fusion) of different sources of sensory information into one representational format. The articles in this special issue on multisensor integration and fusion for intelligent robots represent the wide scope of multisensor integration and fusion issues and methods in the design of intelligent robotic systems
