Abstract
We discuss solitons in nonlinear resonators for the following different systems: laser resonators containing a nonlinear absorber, intracavity parametric mixing, and semiconductor microresonators. In these structures the following localized structures (or spatial solitons) were predicted: bright solitons, phase-defect solitons, and bright and dark coupled solitons. We report our experimental findings, briefly linking then to the main theoretical predictions. Our results confirm that these structures can be observed, paving the way to practical applications.
