Abstract

In this chapter, we consider SM with one active transmit antenna per time instance. In the first section, we start with the signal detection at the receiver for the conventional SM transmission approach from Section 2.2.1. We discuss three known suboptimal detection schemes and propose an efficient new approach. Based on the proposed detection scheme, we discuss properties of signal constellations and demonstrate that Eisenstein integers are well suited for SM. In the second section, we consider a coding scheme based on codes over Gaussian and Eisenstein integers that improves the performance of SPM.
