Abstract

The theatre space of Macau Cantonese Opera has undergone four transformations, each of which is connected with specific environmental factors and historical connotations. The first time was in the period of "Straw Shack". As a part of the ritual, the Cantonese Opera Theatre embodied the intermediary blending and self-identity of the Chinese society and national culture in Macau in the threshold area. The second is the period of Zhishiban and Anti-Japanese War. The theatre space changed from theatricality to presupposed presence, reflecting the national consciousness in the historical process. The third is the theatre period. The marketability of citizens'cultural consumption determines the professionalization and prosperity of Cantonese opera, which is the concentrated reflection of the theatricality of Cantonese opera. The fourth time is the transformation of theatre space from professionalism to amateurism of Macau Cantonese Opera, which reflects the internal relationship between Macau Cantonese Opera and the public domain of capital civil society..
