Abstract
A computer-aided procedure is described that aids in creating and analyzing conceptual transportation system designs. The program assists the designer by developing an optimal transportation vehicle design, analyzing the design's performance characteristics, performing a mass properties analysis of the vehicle, and estimating the total cost of the system. The program is of modular construction and is hosted on an IBM-PC microcomputer. The program architecture is outlined. The individual program modules and their input and output parameters are described, and example results obtained in using the program are presented. The model is designed to deal with most kinds of transportation systems (up to four stage vehicles), including expendable, partially-reusable, and fully-reusable, vehicle configurations. It serves as a prototype for a second-generation model that will be hosted on a VAX minicomputer.
