Abstract

In addition to the pure energy dependence of quantum transitions, controlled by the wave function overlap, semiconductor crystals are also characterized by the space—time dependence controlled by the spatio-temporal distribution of valence electrons. This radically changes the dynamics of quantum processes, i.e., photon absorption, electron multiplication, and electrical breakdown. An analysis is performed in atomic scale.
