Abstract

The feasibility of space targets detecting will be widely extended if the properties of the space targets are able to be distinguished based on the optical information as little as possible that means the optical information which is used to identify the space targets is able to be collected by simple optical equipment. Artificial space targets are usually not active emitting objects; therefore, the relative research should be focused on the scattering characteristics of space targets or their material. We have inspected two kinds of materials which are widely used in the manufacturing of space vehicles and we have found similar optical information in the scattered light of the two kinds of materials, as the bio-reflection distribution, the spectrum distribution and so on. However, we have found that the scattered light contains slender polarization ingredient which could be used to distinguish the two kinds of materials after accurate analysis which, obviously, based on the polarization analysis. This kind of analysis method could provide a valuable consultation to the detecting method of space targets.
