Abstract

In this paper, scattering properties of typical target in lossy half space are analyzed and investigated based on the four path model and the physical optics. The half space especially its electromagnetic characteristics has a great influence on the scattering properties of the surrounding target. For comparison, the scattering properties of the typical target in free space are also proposed. Generally speaking, the mono-static radar cross section (RCS) of the target in lossy half space are much stronger than that of free space, which can be explained based on the four path model. By investigating the influence of the electromagnetic characteristics of the lossy half space on the scattering properties of the typical target, we found that the more the lossy half space matches the free space, the lower the mono-static RCS is.
