Abstract
Recent advances in a wide range of technologies have led to an explosion in the quantity and usefulness of satellite imagery. This paper examines the problems caused by the rapid growth in image data and the associated technologies. It proposes the Space Image Acquisition and Processing Architecture (SIAPA) as a means to provide a uniform human computer interface for image storage, processing, and acquisition. The primary goal is to provide an easy to use human computer interface without hindering the rapid growth in image technologies. The resulting architecture will allow the user to access a collection of databases and image processing algorithms through a single interface. Thus the user will not have to learn the details of how to use each component. Additionally, the architecture will provide an automated way to interact with the satellite sensor scheduling process and an architecture to aid the satellite sensor scheduling expert.
