Abstract

Radish (Raphanus sativus L.) cultivars are very specific in how they respond to temperature and photoperiod. The present investigation was carried out to evaluate eight cultivars of radish established at six sowing dates for characters affecting root yield. Analysis indicated that cultivars, dates of sowing and the interaction between cultivars × dates of sowing affected results. On the basis of evaluation over sowing dates; ‘Pusa Himani’ was recommended for Jan. sowing; ‘Punjab Ageti’ for March and May sowing; ‘Punjab Ageti’ and ‘Pusa Chetki’ for July sowing; ‘Punjab Safed’ for Sept. sowing and ‘Mino Early White Long’ for Nov. sowing. In the March, May and July sowings, ‘Punjab Ageti’ performed better likely due to its tolerance to high temperature. Except for ‘Pusa Himani’, radish varieties evaluated performed poorly when established in January due to pre-mature bolting.
