Abstract

The following article is the most concise authoritative account of the Soviet system of higher education we have seen anywhere. It is a summary of a talk given by Dr. Eurich to a group of Harvard alumni immediately after an extended visit to the Soviet Union, and is reprinted with permission from the publication Harvard Today, February 1958. Dr. Eurich, Vice President and Director of the Ford Fund for the Advancement of Education, was formerly Executive Vice President and for one year Acting President of Stanford University and was the first President of the State University of New York. —The Editors. This article can also be found at the Monthly Review website, where most recent articles are published in full.Click here to purchase a PDF version of this article at the Monthly Review website.
