Abstract

This portfolio presents 3 pieces of videographic research focused on film sound and the soundscape. Alongside a written statement these works reflect and expand on a video essay I published in 2020 entitled Sonic Chronicle, Post Sound. The portfolio contains 3 new pieces of work; a video essay ‘Sound Stack’ which revisits my 2020 video essay and queries the pursuit of sonic authenticity in film soundtracks from the perspective of Michael Southworth’s soundscape research. An annotated soundwalk through Boston replicating Southworth’s 1967 research. And a tutorial video which explores the volumetric process used in the Sound Stack video essay.
